Chapter 20

Harper Hillstrom

As I stepped out of the bathroom, my eyes immediately locked on Dante sprawled on the floor, just wearing pants and looking like he owned the place. Orlando's lean figure was perched at the end of the bed, his green eyes focused on something only he could see. Then there was Griffin, still sitting at the desk with that dark hair falling over his piercing blue eyes. Shit, what the hell was going on?

Griffin had always been a closed book to me, keeping me at arm's length since we first met. He didn't seem to hate me, but he sure as hell didn't act like he enjoyed my company like Dante and Orlando did. But now, the way he was staring at me made me wonder if something had changed. His face looked more open, and for once, those intense eyes were directed towards me.

Feeling the heat of Griffin's stare, I couldn't help but squirm under the intensity. Shit, why was he suddenly so interested? It made me feel like a specimen under a microscope. Feeling the sudden need to create some space between us, I darted over to the wardrobe Orlando had generously stocked for me after Jessica and her posse went all klepto on my shit.

"Damn," I muttered under my breath as I rifled through the new clothes, trying to find something comfortable to wear. Oddly enough, I wasn't too torn up about my old belongings being gone. Even the box from my dad didn't seem to matter all that much anymore. Guess meeting the guy in person had a way of putting things in perspective.

"Here we go," I murmured, plucking a soft lounge set from the hangers. It looked cozy as hell, perfect for a night in with... well, this motley crew, apparently. As I turned to make a beeline back to the bathroom, Dante's voice stopped me in my tracks.

"Hey, Harper, if you change out here, you could give us a little show." His grin was as wicked as it was charming, but no way was I gonna fall for that one.

"Nice try, wolf boy," I shot back, laughing despite myself. "But you're not getting another peep show tonight."

"Can't blame a guy for trying." Dante winked at me, and I rolled my eyes, though I couldn't help but smile.

Safely behind the closed bathroom door, I changed into my comfy new threads, relishing the feeling of the soft fabric against my skin. When I emerged, I found Dante, Orlando, and Griffin just as I'd left them – waiting, watching, and making me feel like there was something I should know.

"Alright, out with it," I demanded, planting my hands on my hips. "What's got you all sitting there like a bunch of creepers?"

Orlando chuckled, his green eyes sparkling with amusement. "We just have a few things to tell you that you missed from our meeting with Hunter."

"Alright, spill it then." I let out an impatient huff, trying not to show how unnerved I was by their collective scrutiny.
